This object captures and carries stories through its intra-action with the world. In this objectual practice, the world is interpreted and mediated in collaboration with the object. The stories that emerge become entangled within its physical form. It exists in a state of continual becoming — always evolving, never complete…
This object is meant to challenge normative approaches to learning
Through this object a location of vulnerability, of the body’s most charged and often silenced region of the male’s body is exposed. At the centre this male crouch lies a metal sinkhole-cold, circular, clinical. It is architectural and medical at once: a place where waste disappears, or where a body might be flushed from meaning. And sealed within it is a white rubber plug , pressed into the void.
Material inquiry into gender constructs
This intervention into a football proposes as an inquiry into gender constructs. By deconstructing its identity, I seek to uncover the layers beneath, allowing the emergent properties of this new object to tell their own story. In its deflated and vulnerable state, the football’s materiality is exposed, revealing new meanings that challenge its intended function.
The surgical tools embody the concept of dissecting objects as a form of artistic-enquire. This approach allows going beyond the surface of objects to explore their deeper layers—material, historical, symbolic, and cultural. By peeling back these layers, the practice seeks to uncover hidden narratives or surface new meanings, to challenge the original intentions or assumptions attributed to the objects. In doing so, it opens space for new interpretations to emerge and encourages viewers to engage critically with with their identity and predetermined characteristics.
